She’s here, she’s here, she’s finally here. After all the waiting our little baby girl was born July 4th, 2008 at 12:45 am. At 7 lbs 2 oz and 19 1/4 inches long she is as perfect as we could hope for. OK before I go any further, I need to throw out this disclaimer, It’s Blair writing this time not Laura. I am normally not the blogging type but with this entry I felt I could make an exception. So back to the tale of how Camille Ann Brown came into the world.

July 2nd, 2008 1:30 am – Laura started to have minor contractions (her words not mine) spaced out about by 15 mins. These continued the rest of the day without stopping. She went to see Dr. Griffin for her usual appointment. He said that it could be early labor or it might stop any time. He felt that she was close though, and she probably would not make it to her next appointment without having the baby.

July 3rd, 2008 1:30 am – Laura woke me up saying that the contractions were much stronger now and more frequent occurring between 4-7 mins apart. Since the recommendation says go to the hospital when they are 5 mins apart, we decided that we better go in and have it checked out. We were in the hospital for about two hours, by 5 am they sent us home, and they said it wasn’t time yet but it would be soon. Since neither one of us had gotten any sleep that night we decided to bag the regularly scheduled events for the day. I called the dental school and said I wouldn’t be in, and Laura called her work too. Since Denny’s is right across the street from the hospital we decided to have an early breakfast there.

July 3rd, 2008 11:00 am. After sleeping the rest of the morning away we decided to get up andgo to the mall to walk around. People had told us that walking can speed up labor so walk we did. Laura stopped by work for a few hours, this was her last day working for the Colstons so she had some last minute things to tell Stephanie who is replacing her. Later that evening, we decided to go to the park to continue with our walking around therapy to see if we would get any results.

July 3rd, 2008 10:30 pm. Well, I think it is safe to say we did get results from our walking around all day. Laura’s water broke about an hour after we finished our walk in the park. We headed over to the knowing that there would be no getting sent home this time. On the way over the contractions went to 2 mins apart and were getting much more painful. Luckily we had registered earlier so we could almost go straight in. I had to wait in the waiting room while they checked her out. After 15 mins, they called me into the room with her. She was 6 cm dialated and ready to go to the delivery room. She was wheeled over to the delivery room and hooked up to all sorts of gismos to monitor her and the baby. They had to do some blood work before she could get the epidural. The contractions were still getting worse though and fast. They checked her again and now she was 8 cm and wanting to push. They put a rush on the epidural so she would get it in time. I had to leave the room while they administered the epidural. After 15 mins I was back and now Laura was Fully dialated and ready to have the baby. She was on her side trying not to push until the Doctor got there.

July 4th, 2008 12:45 am. Once Doc. arrived it took only about 15 mins for her to actually have the baby. All of the medical people were shocked at how fast she had progressed andhad the baby. They couldn’t believe this was her first one. I was so proud of Laura for how well she did during the birth. I was amazed at the miracle of birth. I have seen educational films on child birth, and had classes discribing how it goes, but when it was my wife and my little one wow! It was so amazing to see little Cami born and start to blink her cute little eyes. I was beeming withpride for my girls. I got right to work snapping photos of Cami. Once Laura had little Camille in her arms, I started to call bothof our families to let them know. Laura’s parents live in Richmond, KY and so they headed out to come and see us.

July 4th, 2008 2:00 am. We were moved from the delivery room to room 312 of the maternity ward. Laura’s parents and sister Emmalie arrived just as we got to our new room. They got to see the baby before she was taken to the nursery for her initial check up. While Cami was in the nursery, Laura’s family went over to Denny’s to get something to eat andbring us something back. When they got back, Cami was back in our room so they all took turns holding her. They left for Richmond around 5:00 am.

July 6th, 2008 1:00 pm. After two days of being in Norton Suburban hospital, we are finally home with our little girl. It was good to be there to have nurses help us out for the first few days but I am really thrilled to be home.(My hide-a-bed was killer on my back) This whole experience has been amazing. Camille is so cute and wonderful. I know it won’t be all fun and games but I am so excited to be a new dad and for Laura to be a mom. I hope my blog entry has been up to par with previous ones by my wife, enjoy the cute pictures of our daughter :) .

And I am glad that I finally met the Princess Munchkin. What a sweetie and what a great smile. It just lights up her entire body. Congratulations to all three of the Browns.
